About Our Hard Plastic Moving Boxes

Why use A SMART MOVE moving boxes?

Our hard, boxes are waterproof, crushproof, clean and sanitized. They also have an easy grip handle, come with free labels and zip ties, and can hold up to 2 times more than cardboard moving boxes. In short, A SMART MOVE moving boxes calm the chaos of moving, saving you time and money. 

How are these plastic moving boxes better than cardboard?

Sure, you might be able to find cardboard boxes for free, but how much time will you waste tracking them down and looking for the perfect size? Plus, you'll still have to buy packing tape and bubble wrap, since cardboard doesn't offer much protection, and who knows what was in those boxes before you got them? They could contain dirt, bugs, rodent droppings or bacteria. Do you really want that transferred onto your 500 thread count sheets, or your child's toys? And once you've finished with your cardboard boxes, how are you going to dispose of them? 

On the other hand, you could just rent our durable totes - delivered to your door, clean and sanitized, already assembled with no need for tape, and then picked up at your new home or office after you've unpacked them. 

Do the moving boxes come in different sizes?

We carry 2 sizes of moving crates. The most popular measure 27”L  x 17”W  x 12”H, with a smaller box being made available 21"L x 15"W x 12"H suitable for books and collectable items. Their ergonomic design makes our eco-friendly crates easier to stack and pack into a moving van or truck. 

How much weight can each moving box hold?

Each moving tote can hold between 40-50lbs, can be stacked 4-5 totes high on the free dollies we provide.

What do you mean by "clean and sanitized"?

Used cardboard boxes can contain bugs, dirt, rodent droppings and bacteria. Even new cardboard retains water and moisture, making it a breeding ground for insects and bacteria. Our moving boxes are made from heavy duty plastic, which is dense, durable and very bug-unfriendly, and we clean and sanitize each box before each use.

Do I need to keep my moving boxes clean?

We understand that moving boxes may get dirty, and normal debris is expected.  However, if you pack your mud-caked soccer kit inside, leaving an undue amount of dirt, you will be charged $5.00 per box upon return for heavy duty cleaning. 

Likewise, if you decide to use your own sticky labels - which are hard to remove - instead of the easy-peel labels that we provide, $5.00 per box charge for cleaning will be applied. 

About Our Moving Box Rental Process

What is involved with delivery and pick up?

We make all deliveries and collections within a 2 hour delivery window, 6 days a week. We are able to make exceptions under special circumstances and strive to do our best to help our customers in these situations. 

We need a person over 18 to be present at both the delivery and pick up locations to sign for the moving boxes. This protects both parties. Any materials that do not get returned will be charged at $40 per box for the Medium Boxes, $20 per box for the Small Boxes, $150 per Dolly, $100 per Wardrobe and $20 per Laundry Bag.

What areas do you currently serve?

We currently service the San Diego and San Diego County areas which include Carlsbad, Escondido, Encinitas, San Marcos, Oceanside and Chula Vista. We offer free delivery and pick up for residential and commercial properties within a 25-mile (30-minute) radius 92130. For service outside of the following zip codes, the delivery and pick up charge is calculated on a per order basis.

How do I pack my fragile items?

A SMART MOVE recommends using our heavy duty newsprint paper and bubble wrap. Cover each item in the paper or bubble wrap and then place in the moving box, making sure the box is packed tightly, and empty space is filled with crunched up paper to reduce the likelihood of your items moving in-transit. To date, we have not heard of any breakages.

Does A SMART MOVE offer moving services?

Does A SMART MOVE offer long-term moving box rentals?

There are a few people who want to pack up their household or office items for an extended period. Please call 858-790-8394 for pricing in these circumstances. 

About Our Ordering Process

How do I place an order to rent moving boxes?

Our moving kits include 20 to 200+ boxes, plus dollies and free delivery. To view pricing and place an order for a residential move, simply go to our Order Form, choose a delivery date and time, select the number of boxes you'd like to rent, as well as any add-ons, such as wardrobe boxes and packing supplies, then enter your contact information and payment method. You can also call us at 858-790-8394 or email us at info@a-smart-move.com.

What methods of payment are accepted?

We accept cash, check or credit cards.

Is there a minimum order?

Yes, 20 moving boxes for 1 week.

What if I need to rent more boxes? 

This is considered a new order and will have its own independent rental agreement.

Can I rent the boxes for longer than the original agreement?

Yes, provided they have not already been reserved by another customer. We ask that you contact us 48 hours prior to your original collection date so we can best accommodate your needs. Additional fees will apply.

Do you accept partial returns?

No, the moving boxes are rented in periods of whole weeks. We do not offer daily pro-rated charges.

Do you accept early returns?

We understand that sometimes clients finish with their rental boxes prior to the original collection date. We will do our best to collect the moving boxes if you finish early, but there are no refunds for early returns. 

Can I change the dates for my box rental?

We understand that things beyond our control happen, and date changes can be one of those things. We strive to meet all of our clients' needs and ask that you give us as much notice as possible if you need to change your dates. 

My friend is moving at the same time - can I give them a few of my rented boxes?

No. You are responsible for the condition of A SMART MOVE boxes while they are rented to you. We will only deliver and collect them from the addresses given at the time of the order. Any materials that do not get returned will be charged at $40 per box for the Medium Boxes, $20 per box for the Small Boxes, $150 per Dolly, $100 per Wardrobe and $20 per Laundry Bag to the credit card we hold on file.
